The Colombia Project

The Colombia Project was established by RPCVSF in 2000 at the request of RPCVs who had served in Colombia. The purpose of the project was to help people affected by the violence in Colombia rebuild their lives.  The program focused on partnering with grassroots organizations in Colombia that provide micro-loans to small entrepreneurs.  Over a period of thirteen years, The Colombia Project raised $107,500 which was distributed to Colombian charitable organizations to fund a total of $275,000 in loans (at an average amount of $208).

Helene Dudley (RPCV Colombia 68-70, Slovakia, Albania) served as the Chair of the Committee, and was recognized for her work with The Colombia Project in 2007 when she received the  Lifetime Service Award from then-Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter.  The Colombia Project also received the 2003 National Peace Corps Association's Loret Miller Ruppe Award for Outstanding Community Service.

The project operated for 13 years as a committee of RPCVSF until the end of 2013 when the committee dissolved and formed its own separate and independent organization called TCP Global, which is not affiliated with RPCVSF.
